Understanding the Permit Process

Do You Need a Permit for Angels Landing?

Yes. As of 2022, Zion National Park requires permits for Angels Landing to manage crowds and protect the trail’s natural beauty.

How to Get an Angels Landing Permit

The permit system operates on a seasonal lottery and a day-before lottery:

  1. Seasonal Lottery:
    • Apply months in advance during specific application windows.
    • Cost: $6 application fee (non-refundable) + $3 per person if selected.
  2. Day-Before Lottery:
    • Apply the day before your hike.
    • Cost: $6 application fee (non-refundable) + $3 per person if selected.
  3. Lottery Outcome
    • You will get an email confirming that you got a permit.
    • Print or download a copy of the confirmation as this will serve as your permit and will be needed on your hike.

Pro Tips for Securing a Permit

  • Plan Ahead: Mark the lottery dates on your calendar.
  • Be Flexible: Increase your chances by selecting multiple time slots.
  • Travel Off-Peak: Apply for weekdays or less popular seasons.
