The Wave arizona

The Wave Coyote Buttes North is within Paria Canyon - Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, near the border of Arizona and Utah.

LOCATION

In the 1990's, The Wave gained attention among hikers and photographers. The increased interest led to concerns about the fragile enviromnent so a permit system was established.

DISCOVERY

The Wave permit is one of the most challenging to obtain. About 200,000 people apply per year for 7,300 permits. The persistance is well worth the reward.

Though winning a permit  is challenging, the effort is rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The hike is 6.4 miles round trip primarily sand and red rock . There are so many more things to see besides the iconic wave.

THE HIKE

Capture the magic of the The Wave, one of the most bucket-listed locations to photograph in the American Southwest.

THE wave photogrphy

The Wave is remote and you need to stay at least overnight. My recommendation is Kanab, Utah.  Kanab is a great base camp due to it's central location and amenities.
