Oman’s Daymaniyat Islands in the Arabian Sea are a breathtaking archipelago of nine islands. The islands were declared a nature reserve in 1996. Known for their pristine beaches, coral reefs, and diverse marine life, these islands are a perfect escape.
A Daymaniyat Island Tour is one of my top recommendations for things to do, it truly is one of Oman’s best-kept secrets.
The only con was the weather, I was hoping for blue skies and super calm waters (which most people get). Unfortunately, we had overcast skies and the water was a little rough.
The photos are not what I had hoped to show you with the dramatic blue of the water due to the weather conditions and lack of light. It is still a 10/10 if the weather would have cooperated 12/10!

Why Visit the Daymaniyat Islands?
- Unmatched Snorkeling: The island has some of the most spectacular coral reefs in Oman, teeming with a wide array of marine life including sea turtles, rays, whale sharks, and colorful fish species.
- Dolphin Encounters: You can spot dolphins in Oman’s waters throughout the year, the best time for seeing dolphins is from October to April.
- Pristine Beaches: White sandy beaches offer a tranquil break from city life.
- Bird Watching: These islands are also home to migratory birds such as white-cheeked terns, Socotra cormorants, and Opreys just a few.
- Conservation Efforts: Engaged with ongoing environmental stewardship conservation projects, including turtle nesting site and coral reef protection.
Where are the Dayamaniyat Islands Located?
The Daymaniyat Islands are located off the northeastern coast of Oman, in the Arabian Sea. Situated approximately 11 miles (18 kilometers) from the coast of Barka, 43 miles (70 kilometers) west of Muscat. The archipelago consists of nine islands, stretching over a distance of several miles and forming part of Oman’s first nature reserve. Its proximity to Muscat makes it an accessible yet seemingly remote paradise for travelers.
How to Get to the Dayamaniyat Islands
Access to the Daymaniyat Islands is via boat from several launch points along the Omani coast. It’s essential to book your trip with a licensed operator. I highly recommend Dayamaniyat Norana Sea Tours, which sets sail at Al Muhajer Marina, Muscat. This marina has a dedicated car park, on-water lounge, and other activities to enjoy. The boat trip takes around 45 minutes to get to the first snorkeling spot.

Best Time to Visit
First, you can visit the Daymaniyat Islands year-round. I was told that generally, the best time is March-May overall and the best time to spot whale sharks is from September to November.
During turtle nesting season, which is between May and October, you cannot access the islands, which is really no big deal, as the fun is the snorkeling.
Check the wave level before booking the tour, as this can affect the water visibility and quality of the snorkel.
On our timetable, we only had one day, and unfortunately, we had rougher waters and overcast skies, but it was still amazing, just not that crystal clear experience.
