Photograhy Tips

Hang En Cave offers jaw-dropping scenes that beg to be photographed—but low light, high contrast, and the sheer scale of the cave can make capturing it a challenge. Here are a few tips to help you get the best shots:

  • Bring a wide-angle lens: A 16–35mm lens works great for showcasing the massive scale of the cave and fitting those towering ceilings and wide chambers into frame.
  • Use a tripod for exposure balance: Light inside the cave is limited, especially compared to the bright entrance. A tripod allows you to shoot longer exposures and use exposure bracketing to capture both highlights and shadows for clean HDR images.
  • Ask your guide for photo advice: The Oxalis guides are incredibly familiar with the cave and know which spots are safe—and which ones offer the best compositions. Don’t hesitate to ask them for help lining up your shots.
  • Pack a powerful headlamp: While Oxalis provides headlamps, bringing your own high-lumen model can make a big difference. I used the Petzl Swift RL (1100 lumens), and it was a game-changer—bright, long-lasting, and great for adding light in shadowy areas. Even the guides were impressed.
